Dear Morningside Community,
We have some appreciations and some news to share with you.
We would like to appreciate the members of Morningside Center’s Board of Directors. This remarkable group of leaders have given so much of themselves over the years. Over the past two years alone, they have made it possible for this organization to make a smooth transition to new leadership – no small feat – and now to weather the Covid storm.
We are so grateful for our talented and dedicated board chair Joyce Dudley, vice chair Emma Gonzalez, treasurer Luther Flurry, and Secretary Christina Fuentes. We are also deeply indebted to Jinnie Spiegler, Ashley Patterson, and Grant Olds for their wisdom and expertise, and their hard work on behalf of Morningside Center.
It is with sadness that we say goodbye and THANK YOU to outgoing board member Betsy Bousquette. She has helped guide and support our organization for over a decade – and made us a better and stronger team.
We are excited to announce that this fall, we welcomed two giants in the field of education to our board: Dr. Fred Frelow and Robert Kim, JD.
Fred Frelow is a former public school teacher, a school administrator, and a leader in philanthropy specializing in school finance and innovative professional development strategies. At both the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, Fred’s leadership advanced racial and fiscal equity throughout our nation’s public schools. He is kind, caring, and has deep insights about teaching and learning. We are thrilled that he has joined our team!
Robert Kim also adds enormous educational experience to our board. A former ACLU attorney, Bob advised thousands of educators on civil rights and school climate issues in public schools, and worked in the U.S. Department of Education under President Obama to eliminate punitive discipline policies. He’s also a former curriculum writer and teacher trainer who has authored materials to counter LGBTQI bullying and other forms of bullying and harassment in schools. Most recently, he authored Elevating Equity and Justice: Ten U.S. Supreme Court Cases Every Teacher Should Know.
Please join us in welcoming our new Board members and in appreciating Betsy Bousquette and those who continue to serve on our Board.
