Mariah

Mariah Schwarz, Writer/Editor – Development & Communications. Mariah comes to Morningside Center with two decades of experience in institutional fundraising for the arts, education and equity initiatives—most recently as head of Institutional Development for Ballet Hispánico. A lifelong student of African American, Indigenous/First Nations and Latine/Hispanic literatures, she completed an (academic) Masters in Secondary English Education (City College); and has spent significant time in regions ranging from southern Tennessee and Milwaukee, WI, to the Blackfoot Reservation, MT, San Francisco, CA, and Haïti. She also publishes fiction and non-fiction from poetry and memoir to art and culture meditations. Mariah brings all of this experience and a lifelong commitment to Mitakuye Oyasin (Lakota, “all my relations”) to her work and play. She lives in Brooklyn with her son, a cat, an axolotl, three salamanders and the hope that—through our work—more people will learn and live “all my relations.” If nothing else, words are magic.
